Hope Has A Posse of the Day: Street artist Shepard Fairey remixes his iconic Obama “Hope” poster with the Anonymous-associated Guy Fawkes mask in support of the Occupy movement.
He writes on his blog:

Change is not about one election, one rally, one leader, it is about a constant dedication to progress and a constant push in the right direction. Let’s be the people doing the right thing as outsiders and simultaneously push the insiders to do the right thing for the people.

I Wish I Were Fluent In…

I’ve always been fascinated by the many languages spoken all over the world. It’s actually my dream to learn as many as I could in my lifetime, so whenever I see a text, like the postcard below, I’d actually understand it.

Russian Postcard 2

Recently I had the urge to learn how to speak Russian. So I enlisted in a basic Russian class as a free elective in college this semester. Right after signing up, I automatically Googled Russian language and I read in one website that it’s hard to learn. So now I’m scared.

I hope the professor is nice, though. I’m still traumatized with my French teacher from three years ago. Maybe I should get a friend to tutor me this time. I have met a native Russian girl this year, and she’s very nice. Perhaps she’ll be nice enough to teach me.

You know what, I should make a follow-up post about this. Our second semester starts this Tuesday, and I will be going to my first basic Russian class on the same day, too.

$10 = Any Nice Restaurant in the Philippines; $2 = Best Meal Ever

I LOVE FOOD, especially when it’s cheap and delicious. Thank goodness I live in a country where it’s easy to find affordable meals that are also delicious and won’t give you food poisoning. Many of my foreigner friends are fascinated by value meals offered by well-known fastfood chains like McDonald’s, Jollibee, KFC, etc. But for me, the yummiest, wallet-friendly meal I have bought is the basic meal from our school’s cafeteria, which only costs Php 65. (approximately US$1.52) I am so sorry I forgot the name of that food stall.

Grilled Pork (Liempo)

This particular food stall’s basic meal includes one serving of a main dish, (I usually order pork liempo or roast chicken) one side dish, (mashed potatoes or cheese sticks) and one cup of rice. You could even ask them to pour a helping of mushroom gravy on your viand and rice. Just buy a Php 30 drink and you’re all set. Oh man, just thinking about it makes me hungry. I can’t wait to go to school for this.

Year End To-Do’s (Or What’s Left of It)

Wow. I mean, WOW. Can you believe we’re almost at the end of the year? I know time flies by when you’re having fun, but it feels like time just literally zoomed past me! And I’m not having that much fun, truth be told.

The good thing, though, is I realized I have done almost all of what I wanted to accomplish this year. My mom and I started our joint business venture, I re-discovered my passion for writing through last semester’s feature writing class and I am now earning by writing SEO articles, I have learned to accept myself more and more with the help of Tweet Sering’s memoir, “Astigirl,” and I am four months away from graduating! So here’s what’s left of my 2011 to-do list.

List #14 preview

1. Go on a date with M, WHO I HAVEN’T SEEN IN ALMOST ONE YEAR AND NINE MONTHS.
2. Spend the first half of what I hope would be my last semester in college in the best way possible.
3. Buy Christmas gifts for my family and friends USING MY OWN MONEY. (For the past several years, I’ve been using my parents’ money. Goodness knows my mom’s been keeping account of my expenses somewhere.)
4. Reach the 140-lb. mark. And I’m talking about my weight. (Just making things clear.)
5. Buy myself something really really expensive, my mom’s gonna cry. When will the iPhone 4S become available in the Philippines?
6. Write a 2012 resolution that I will actually keep and fulfill.
